I grew up in the Okanagan. The land of vines and rolling hills, carved out of the mountains by glaciers. It’s a beautiful place, whether skiing in the winter, overlooking the valleys wrapped in clouds, or cruising down the lake on a hot summer’s day.
That’s why I love going back to photograph Okanagan weddings. It’s beauty is so certain, and so different from anywhere else I’ve ever been. Wedding photography in the Okanagan takes on a certain look and feel of the valley. The hillsides glow gold while trees and vines surround the blue water. So I was an honour to be invited to photograph Erik and Catherine’s wedding at Fitzpatrick Family Vineyards.
I hope to be back soon, because the sunsets are as epic as the wine. Enjoy the photos. I will let Catherine tell the rest of the story.
My husband and I got married on May 12th 2018 in beautiful Peachland, BC, and this is our wedding story. Why Peachland? We do not have any family or any special tries to this area but we love the Okanagan! However, when choosing a wedding venue in wine country you will quickly find out that industry and nature dictate your event choices. We originally planned to get married in September but our venue manager stated we would not get to use a majority of the building’s crush deck because, of course, that is when they harvest their wine grapes. We opted for May, earlier in the wedding season to avoid the heat and wild fires that often occur in the surround areas.
After almost year of planning we arrived in Peachland on Thursday, May 10th . We spent the day packing, driving and finally relaxing with our family at The Cove Lakeside Resort. The following day, when we did the rehearsal with our awesome no-nonsense Marriage Officiant and decorated our beautiful lakeside venue it finally kicked it that we were getting married.
Our wedding day started with a breakfast, hair and make up. The guys were out in the best man’s suite with a later start. Our photographers split, one in each suite, to capture both parties getting ready. They directed us to get the best shots and they were both very easy to work with.
We arrived at our venue around noon. The Fitzpatrick Family Vineyards is new to hosting weddings (its first wedding was held in 2017) but the venue is truly breathtaking. The site is off Hwy 97 and the steep topography provides perfect panoramic views over Lake Okanagan. As a real estate appraiser for the Vancouver West Side, I was drawn to the tremendous value this view would provide for our travelling guests, plus think of all the photos! A few years back they renovated their buildings and built a beautiful new addition that included a crush deck, bistro, full kitchen and more. I would describe Fitzpatrick as modern, high-end and beautiful.
The time was 3pm and our ceremony was about to begin! Our string Trio set the tone as we walked down the aisle. The ceremony was short but powerful—tears were flowing as we were pronounced husband and wife! The rest of the evening was filled with champagne toasts, delicious wine and gourmet food, speeches, Polish traditions, games, dances and most importantly, LOVE!
