I was so happy to find three amazing couples this year for my Valentine's Day giveaway. The first is Joey and Jennifer. Both of these fine people make my job incredibly easy. So what's their story? I'll let Joey tell it in his own words:
"I met Jennifer 14 years ago, in high school. I remember her pig tails and I remember serendipitously sitting next to her in Grade 9 Social Studies. What ensued from that day was four years of arm poking and relentless teasing in an attempt to get her attention. Despite my childish attempts at wooing her, she played along, but our paths led in different directions. Before I knew it we were at different schools in different cities. We remained friends—staying in touch on birthdays and special occasions but I never shook the feeling that she was the one that got away.
Fast forward 10 years from the day that we met and I found the “girl that got away" back in town. It was then that I mustered up as much courage as I could and asked her out. She said "yes". It’s now been three and a half blissful years of being together, overcoming difficulties, and uncountable moments of deep joyful laughter.
Going onto our 14th year of knowing each other, exactly half of our lives, I knew that I wanted to spend the rest of my life with her. Last summer I attempted to muster the courage again to ask her another important question. I found the perfect place looking over the Naramata Bench in the Okanagan to ask her to marry me. Again, her answer was "yes".
We always joke about not being high school sweet hearts. Jennifer will say that for the last 14 years of our lives, she’s been waiting for me to grow up from being the silly boy in high school who poked and teased her. I stand by the fact that I was just waiting for the opportune moment to make my move.
Either way you choose to see it, we both agree that it’s never too late."
